Akaka
Falls 98 (Copyright 1998 A. Dominguez, Spain).
A single instance of Seq-303 controls a Yamaha
TG-77, with realtime transpositions added via a
MIDI keyboard. Overdubs of sampled Mellotron
sounds round out the piece. The overall effect is
very reminiscent of early Tangerine Dream. This
is an excerpt from a six-minute song. Download Akaka Falls 98.wav (439K, ADPCM compressed)
here. You can hear more of Angel's work on his home page. |

Seq-303
Demo (Grant Davies, USA). Multiple
instances of Seq-303 are used to control an
AWE-32 and Yamaha CS1x. The result is a cool
little bassline and breakbeat loop. Download Seq-303 Demo.wav (295K) here. |

Fall
(Angel Dominguez, Spain). More
T-Dreamish stuff from Angel, created with Arp-X8.
Amazingly, he created this within 15 minutes of
downloading the program, using Arp-X8 and a
Yamaha SY-55. (And more than a little talent,
too.) Download Fall.wav (500K) here. |

Rich
Machine (Jim Johnson, USA) At long
last.. some music by the creator of Techno Toys!
This was created using Arp-X8 and XG-909. The
MIDI output from these two programs was imported
into Cakewalk, where some very minor edits were
applied; then the resulting sequence was played
using a modular synth, an SH-101, and an XG chip
on a computer motherboard. You'll have to download this one (3 meg), since we're not
set up to stream, yet. |

Dreamtime
(Dave Wright, USA) Multiple instances of
Seq-303 controlling a stack of real and virtual
analogs, including Doepfer, Blacet, and Nord
modulars, a pair of Roland monosynths, and a Paia
Fatman. This is one of my favorites. Listen to dreamtime.mp3 here, or hear more of
Dave's music on his web page. |

Crickets
In Tents (Andrew Scheidler, USA). Live
improvisation using "a Toshiba
laptop, Seq-303, MicroWave XT, headphones and
half a brain". Yeah, right. Electronic music
with a strong beat and a hard edge. Listen to intents.mp3 here. |
 |
Dirge
(Dave Wright, USA). Industrial music
created with Seq-303, a Doepfer/Blacet modular,
and a cellphone scanner. Don't play this one for
your mother! Listen to dirge.mp3 here, or hear more of
Dave's music on his web page. |

Hush
(Copyright 1998 Jason Flaherty, USA). A five-minute techno song
created using Seq-303 and other programs.
According to the composer, "All synth
modulation and much of the actual music is being
played by Seq-303 through a Soundblaster
AWE64." Jason has created links to three
different versions of this song, optimized for 28K, 56K, or T1 connections. You can hear more
examples of Jason's music on his home page. |

Start/stop/continue
(Copyright 1997 if.then.else, USA). A
"down tempo heavy groove with a bit of
funk" piece created with six instances of
Seq-303 in combination with several analog
sequencers, all controlling a large collection of
modular synths, analog synths, and drum machines.
Link to start/stop/continue here, or hear more music
by if.then.else at his home page. |

Tough
Machine (Hiroaki Shigetomi, Japan). A
frenetic bass line and simple drums provide a
foundation for gauzy pads. Hiroaki created the
sequencer parts in Seq-303, then transferred them
to Cubasis for editing and further overdubs.

Hiroaki through his home page to let him know what you
think of his music. |

NSYNC
SYS1 (Copyright (C) 1997 Paul A. Fishwick). Percussion
parts and marimba arpeggios from Seq-303 are
combined with keyboard pads and Awe Toy effects in this excellent
example of the capabilities of General MIDI. This
6 minute song starts out with a scary percussion
assault that soon gives way to a more atmospheric
mix. Download NSYNC SYS1.mid (198K) here, or go to Paul Fishwick's home page for more examples of his
work. |

Losing My
Mind (Stephen Ray Martin, Anaheim, California). Recorded
live from five instances of Seq-303 (with some
minor edits made in Cakewalk to improve
consistency across different GM synths). A simple
sequence repeats on fretless bass and guitar,
while a lead synth part jams on top. The lead
part was created by switching between several
different sequences in real-time. Download Losing My Mind.mid (26K) here. |

PianoFuse
(Geoff Nossiter, UK). Neo-classical
piano by a member of the Nuno Cage
collective. This piece wa performed in real-time
using Arp-X8, with final edits done in Cakewalk.
Download PianoFuse1.mid here, or listen to more
music by Nuno Cage (much of it created with
Seq-303 and Arp-X8) at their web page. |

GuitarFuse
(Geoff Nossiter, UK). Same program,
different approach. In this piece, Geoff used cut
and paste techniques in Cakewalk to create a
short piece from a much longer improvisation done
in Arp-X8. Download Guitar_Fuse_1.mid here. |

The
Nervous Filter. This shows how Seq-303
can control the AWE-32's filter using NRPN
messages. This file contains three parts -
hi-hat, kick drum/scratch, and a burbling
filtered bass - that were created with three
instances of Seq-303. The resulting music was
then copied via the Clipboard to Cakewalk, where
some extra measures were deleted, and the volume
fade at the end was added. Download The Nervous Filter.mid (23K, AWE-32 Only) here. |

An
Uncomfortable Noodle in a Diminished Stew. Recorded
live from three instances of Seq-303, with
minimal editing in Cakewalk. Two filtered
acoustic guitars provide a hypnotic background
drone, while a high-pitched vibraphone tries to
find a place to fit in. This illustrates
real-time interaction with the timing controls,
as well as transposition from an external
keyboard. Download An Uncomfortable Noodle in
a Diminished Stew.mid (28K, AWE-32 Only) here. |
